8 Bells - Eve Chapin
Published 6:23am on 6 May 2024
LNYC lost a long time member, Eve Chapin, last month. As an early member of LNYC, she started Great Inland Sea Chest with Maggie Callen, was an original member of Fairmates, designed the original t-shirt of Junior/Sailing Camp (which was used for many years in various colors), and started the Cheap Chili Binge dinner in the fall. Over the years, the Chapins sailed and were active members in Highlander, Y-Flyer, Sunfish and Laser fleets. In 1970, Eve was awarded the J.S. Livingstone Award, for her many contributions including designing the LNYC club burgee. Dick and Eve Chapin were one of first members to move from Charlotte to live at the lake, and transformed their summer cabin into a permanent home. For many years, they traveled the United States in a RV before settling in Mystic, CT. Many former juniors remember her as a cool sailing Mom. She will be remembered for her artistic talents, especially for her unique homemade Christmas Cards and various paintings of LNYC.
Condolences to the Chapin Family can be sent to:
