The Thistle is a high-performance one-design racing sailboat that is generally sailed with a three-person crew. Thistles have a main, jib and symmetrical spinnaker sail plan. Its a fun, fast, responsive boat that does well in a wide variety of conditions. Thistles plane easily in 10-12 knots of breeze and glide effortlessly in light air. Youll find lots of family boats in the Thistle Class, and its not unusual to see young kids sailing with their parents or grandparents. Thistlers are competitive, but we value the camaraderie we have in the Thistle Class.
There are Thistle fleets across the entire US. Fleet 128 is part of the Carolinas District which in turn is part of the Southeast region. The regatta circuit starts in February with Midwinters East and concludes in November with a regional event at Fort Walton Beach. At LNYC, Fleet 128 races in the Thursday night series and participates in weekend club series racing.
