Fifty boats competed at the NACs at Cedar Point Yacht Club on Long Island Sound this year. It was the first time the fleet didn't have a qualifying day. Instead, each competitor, self-selected their fleet. Check-in, measurement, and welcome party were all on Sunday. The first scheduled day of racing was Monday, and it was a complete blowout with winds in the mid-20s and gusts to 40. Instead, we got a chance to tour the 30K sq/ft North Sails loft in Bridgeport, CT. Tuesday was much better with winds in the 10-15 range. The current was pushing the fleet over the starting line so we saw a couple general recalls as a result. After the I flag was used, we got three long, 50-minute races in. Wednesday saw the winds back off slightly (6-12), and again the current was pushing us over the starting line. After a couple the general recalls, the PRO went to the U flag and we got in two races. These first five races were incredibly close. The top ten boats were finishing within 30 seconds of each other. Thursday was the last day of racing and we left the dock in two mph of breeze. Thankfully, the current was taking us towards the race course. The wind filled in nicely at 8-12 mph and we got in our last two races. LNYC's best finish was a fourth overall and first in the Masters division, by Dave Rink and Joel Blade.
